ASSAULT - GOUVERNEUR - A Gouverneur woman was charged with a felony assault count Thursday night after she allegedly kicked a sheriff’s deputy in the knee while the police officer was attempting to break up a bar fight.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged Jeana M. Ashley-Matott, 37, of 224 Quarry Road, Gouverneur, with a felony count of second-degree assault and a disorderly conduct violation.

Police said Gouverneur Village Police and sheriff’s deputies were attempting to break up a bar fight at 10 p.m. Thursday on East Main Street when Ashley-Matott kicked the officer in the knee cap, injuring the deputy.

She was arraigned by Gouverneur Town Justice Stanley H. Young Jr., and bail was set at $1,000 cash.
