Thousand Islands Central School District soon will launch a new science-based curriculum, the “Gateway to Technology” program, to strengthen STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) instruction with a $10,000 grant awarded last week, according to school district officials.

The funds were provided by the Monsanto Fund-sponsored “America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education” grant program.

The program allows farmers to nominate a local public school district, which then can compete for a grant of up to $25,000 to enhance math and/or science education. Thousand Islands Central was among more than 1,150 nominated school districts to submit applications for a total of $2.3 million made available through the grant program this year.
