College basketball: Syracuse’s Fair Naismith finalist


SYRACUSE — Senior forward C.J. Fair of Syracuse is one of 50 student-athletes included on the 2013-14 Naismith Men’s Player of the Year Trophy watch list, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Thursday.

The Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year award will be dwindled down to a mid-season list with 30 players on Feb. 25, followed by four finalists on March 23. The winner will be be announced on April 6 during the Final Four.

Fair is off to a stellar senior season, averaging 18 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, which includes a pair of 20-point performances with a career-high 26 against Fordham.

Fair and the No. 9 Orange tipoff in the EA Sports Maui Invitational at 5:30 p.m. on Mondayagainst Minnesota.
