Morristown Community Thanksgiving Dinner preparations are under way

MORRISTOWN - The fourth annual free community Thanksgiving Day dinner is gearing up to be the largest yet as volunteers prepare to prep the meal and decorate the Morristown Fire Hall.

Peter A. Paquette, one of the dinner’s organizers, said that he hopes to see as many people from the community as possible.

The meal is not a charity dinner, he said, but a place for everyone to celebrate Thanksgiving together.

To ensure people are able to go, volunteers will be offering rides to the dinner, which will begin at 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day after a social hour at noon.

Call 375-8211 or 375-4442 to schedule a ride.

Mary M. Paquette, who also helped organize the meal, said no one needs to make reservations to attend the dinner.

“We’re going to have plenty,” Mr. Paquette said.

As of Friday afternoon, 29 turkeys had been donated for the dinner – two more than last year’s haul.

Sponsored by the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department, the meal served roughly 200 people last year, Mrs. Paquette said.

David J. Murray, another volunteer working to help prepare for the meal, said the turnout has been increasing each year.

Volunteers will show up to the fire hall on Tuesday to debone the turkeys and again on Wednesday to prepare the meal.

Students with the Morristown Central School Honor Society will also help set up the fire hall and decorate for Thanksgiving.

In addition to providing a fun, free community event, the meal also provides a place for attendees to give back.

Mr. Paquette said guests are welcome to bring nonperishable food items to support the Hammond Food Pantry, which serves the Morristown area.
