PARISHVILLE - Four days before Thanksgiving Day, people can go the Parishville Firemens Hall to enjoy a turkey meal with all the trimmings, followed by a square dance featuring live music by the local group, The Back Country Band.
The Parishville Lunch and Dance happens from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, with the dance starting at 1 p.m.
The event is put on by the Parishville Hilltoppers Senior Citizens Club. The lunch costs $7, and the dance has a $4 cover charge.
The dances we have every month, and we do a different theme every month. The theme is Thanksgiving this month, Club President Barb Page said. Usually they just have a dance and sandwiches. Since I became president last January, weve been having dinners with the dances, which draw more people and it seems to help with that.
Ms. Page added that Decembers dance, which happens on Dec. 15, will have a Christmas theme and will likely feature ham or another typical holiday meal.
All of the funds earned through the event go toward keeping the club running, the president noted. I am just trying to raise money and keep the club going. Everything is hurting in times like these, clubs included, but I think well be fine. Youve got to think positive on things, Ms. Page said.
A lot of the people who attend are our members but anyone is welcome. Its a Sunday afternoon and it is a nice way to spend with your family. The weather will control the turnout. If its nice then we have a better turnout and it works out better.
Ms. Page said that she is optimistic there will be a good turnout Sunday and confident attendees will enjoy themselves.
Its a lot of round and square dancing. There are a lot of them that love to square. Carter Hulk is the lead singer and does a good job at getting the people dancing, she said. Its a wonderful activity for everyone and if you like to dance it will be a great time.
