On Saturday, Oct. 5, I had the privilege of attending the 14th annual luncheon and auction for the Trisomy 21 Foundation of NNY (Celebrating Life With Down Syndrome) at the Ramada Inn.
In addition, Dr. Brian Skotko, a board-certified medical geneticist, co-director of the Down Syndrome Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and co-author of an award-winning book, Common Threads: Celebrating Life with Down Syndrome, facilitated a workshop and addressed the guests at the luncheon. He also authored Fasten Your Seatbelt: A Crash Course on Down Syndrome for Brothers and Sisters.
Dr. Skotkos message was simple yet profound. We all need to be a voice for persons with chromosomal differences and we need to embrace their talents and successes. Thank you Trisomy 21, Dr. Skotko and all the people who volunteered to make this gathering so wonderful.
