NORFOLK — A home at 26 S. Main St. was destroyed by fire around 5 a.m. Sunday, resulting in the loss of two dogs and two cats.
The St. Lawrence County Investigation Team said the fire was caused by an electric heater and that the family had smoke detectors but they did not activate.
Investigators said the structure was a total loss.
The building, owned by Seth Hamm and Josie Paige, had seven occupants, none of whom had any injuries.
Norfolk, Norwood, Louisville, Madrid, Massena, Potsdam, West Potsdam and West Stockholm fire departments responded with Waddington on standby.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
According to officials, the house was insured.
