SARATOGA SPRINGS - The SUNY Potsdam mens basketball team dropped an 87-74 non-league decision on the road to Skidmore College on Tuesday.
The Bears (1-3) worked their way to a 46-39 halftime lead but after connecting on seven of their 11 attempts from beyond the three-point arc in the first half, they went 0-7 in the second where the Thoroughbreds (3-1) took control with a 14-6 run through the first 7:36.
Joe Estramonte anchored a balanced offensive effort for Potsdam with 13 points and three steals while notching five rebounds and a team-high four steals. Brandon Williams and Colin Peterson (4 assists) came off the bench to contributed 11 points each. Rishawd Hendricks tallied 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds while former Potsdam Central standout Zac Adams generated 10 points and four assists.
Connor Merrill produced 32 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and three assists to lead the way for Skidmore. Tanner Brooks chipped in 20 points, nine assists and four steals while Aldin Medunjanin contributed 19 points and seven assists.
The Bears are slated to return to action next Tuesday on the road against North Country rival St. Lawrence University starting at 7 p.m. at Burkman Gymnasium.
