STAR program registration ends next month; help offered for Lowville homeowners


LOWVILLE — The tax assessor for the town of Lowville, Erin C. Gratch, will be available at the municipal office, 5535 Bostwick St., from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday to assist homeowners in registering for the state School Tax Relief program. All homeowners under age 64 must register for basic STAR before Dec. 31 to receive the STAR exemption for 2014 and subsequent years.

About 70 percent of those eligible in the town of Lowville already have registered. Applicants should bring proof of identity and Social Security numbers for all owners of a residence to be registered.
