CANTON - The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators appointed Timothy P. LePage as the Director of Probation for the county’s Probation Department during their board meeting Monday night.

Mr. LePage fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Edward Gauthier.

The appointment is effective Dec. 21. and Mr. LePage’s salary will be $72,929.

Legislator Gregory M. Paquin, D-Massena, noted there were three finalists for the post. “We had three very wonderful candidates, (but) it was really by unanimous choice to appoint Mr. LePage. I think Tim is going to do a wonderful job for St. Lawrence County. He’s been a longtime friend and a longtime employee of the county,” Mr. Paquin said.

Mr. LePage has served as a probation officer and probation supervisor in the past and said he will be resigning from his current position as chairman of the village of Massena Zoning Board of Appeals.

He said that he was very appreciative of the Board of Legislator’s support.

“I’m just happy the board was confident enough in my abilities and I am looking forward to working with them and the rest of my department,” Mr. LePage said. “I’ve done every position we have from a probation officer to a senior probation officer and the supervisor and now I am the director. So I’ve moved up the ranks. There will be no immediate changes, and we’ll move in slow and see what needs to be changed and go from there.”
