MASSENA — In an agreement that was made retroactive to October 2012, the town will receive $500 per month from the Federal Aviation Administration for space the agency uses at Massena International Airport.

According to Town Supervisor Joseph D. Gray, the town has not received a payment from the FAA since October 2012, after it relocated operations to the town’s new airport terminal.

Mr. Gray said the agency has claimed it was unaware it had an office in the new terminal, although the office was being staffed by FAA personnel.

Mr. Gray said the rent is a $200 per month decrease over what the town had received in the past, but he also noted the space in the new terminal is much smaller.

“It’s not a whole lot of money, but it’s not a whole of space,” he said. “And it’s money that we don’t have right now.”

The 10-year contract calls for the town to receive $500 per month through 2017, at which point the agreement will increase by 3 percent each year until it expires in 2022.
