GLENFIELD - Maxine O. Verdin, 87, formerly of West Main Street in Watertown, died Sunday morning, December 1, 2013 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where she was a resident since December of 2012. Maxine lived for a short time on the Glenfield Road.
Maxine was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 24, 1926 the daughter of the late Herman L. and the late Catherine L. Bessent Saucer. She married Richard T. Verdin, Jr. on October 18, 1945 at Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. William F. Oddy officiating.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl E. and Vernon E. Bailey of Glenfield; four grandchildren, Michelyn E. Bailey; Nichelle L. and Matthew Billhardt; Beau J. and Denielle Bailey; Tanja Bailey and Timothy Jackson; seven great grandchildren and a great-great grandson and granddaughter; two sisters, Christine Holobrodek of Aurora, CO; Edith MacDowell of Oregon; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Saucer of Jacksonville, FL and Betty Saucer of Yuma, AZ.
Maxine is predeceased by her husband, Richard T. Verdin, Jr. June 2, 2012; a son, Jon Richard Verdin; a grandson, Cory S. Bailey; her four brothers, James, John, Marvin, and Charles Saucer; a sister, Catherine Kitty; and a sister-in-law, Marge Saucer.
Mrs. Verdin worked at Woolworths in Watertown and watched children in her own home and did childcare at the home of several families in the Watertown area.
Maxine was a member of Watertown Assembly of God, Watertown Modern Square Dance Club, Northside Mothers Club, She and Richard were members of Northside Improvement League, Inc., and Maxine and Richard were snowbirds going south in the winter.
A funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home, Lowville with Mike Ryan, Pastor of Watertown Assembly of God officiating.
Calling hours for family and friends will be on Tuesday December 3rd, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Burial for family and friends will be in Dexter Cemetery on Wednesday December 4th at 11:00 A.M.
