Lauzon a good candidate for school board

I am writing this letter in support of Emily Lauzon’s candidacy for the Salmon River Central School Board of Education. Please let me be clear about this. I am not a resident of the Salmon River Central School district and cannot vote in that district. I was not asked to write this letter and I did not seek permission from anyone to do so.

I have known Emily Lauzon for almost 20 years. I have had her as a student in graduate courses at St. Lawrence University where she has been an exceptional student. We have remained in contact over the years and I have followed her professional career and have observed her work within the larger community in the Salmon River Central School district.

Emily is a woman who is a natural advocate for people. She is an advocate for all people, not just the Mohawk people. She has a well developed sense of fairness and her ideas are not affected by race or ethnicity. For Emily, what is fair, is fair. One’s background is irrelevant to her.

Emily is an idea generator. She is a superb listener and is willing to take a risk on a sound educational program or policy. She has a rare analytical ability to consider the pros and cons of an issue and she has the ability to do the essential research before making a wise decision. She will never make a poorly informed choice. Along a similar vein, she will never be a person who will say “We can’t do that because we have never done it before.” She is not afraid to take a risk and her decisions are always based upon the greatest good, not the Mohawk good.

Emily is a great role model for all students. She is ambitious, very hard working, a wonderful family person, and a person of exceptional integrity. In this day and age, when many people expect to receive handouts, Emily will always be the person who will show up early and stay late. She will always do her share and more. When a task is required, when a committee is formed, Emily will always be the one to volunteer. She will always be prepared and she is an exceptional team player. For Emily, who gets the credit is unimportant. What is important is that the job gets done, that people get served and that the group moves on to the next task. The spotlight is not important for her.

Being a member of a board of education is a difficult job these days. Many people will simply say “That job is not for me. Leave it for somebody else.”

That view is totally foreign to Emily. If the job needs to be done, she is a person to whom others can turn and about whom others will say “We need Emily Lauzon on our team. She will get the job done and get it done well.”

I am proud to say, this is my 47th year in education and I have loved my career. Over the years, I have had contact with countless students, parents, colleagues. In my experience, Emily Lauzon is at the very top of all the people who I have known in those 47 years. I am grateful for the opportunity to lend my support to her candidacy and I urge all of the people of the Salmon River Central School District to support her with your vote. Thank you.
