M-W, Heuvelton girls reach Chamberlain Tournament final


MADRID - A classic NAC East Vs. NAC West matchup will determine the championship of the Jessie Chamberlain Memorial Tournament on Wednesday night.

Host Madrid-Waddington will look to extend its control of the tourney title after advancing past Lisbon 59-27 while Heuvelton will chase the title after besting Edwards-Knox 58-24.

The game will also be a repeat of the Class D1 championship of last year’s Section 10 Tournament where Heuvelton prevailed in overtime.

M-W 59, Lisbon 27: M-W pulled away from the Golden Knights by controlling the backboards and converting efficiently on transition opportunities created off its extended zone defense.

Four players had four rebounds or more and guard Tess Knight led all scorers with 17 points.

Jennie King delivered 14 points and six rebounds, Dez Pryce followed with eight points, six rebounds and four assists and Olivia Parmeter grabbed seven rebounds while scoring five points.

Hannah Marcellus contributed four points, four rebounds and three assists and Kennedy Murray grabbed four rebounds.

Alex Amo hit a pair of second half threes scoring 10 points for Lisbon and Jackie Sovie scored six second half points. Maddie Vine and Beth Crowley each hit threes. Heuvelton 58, E-K 29: The Bulldogs used their length and athleticism to jump out to a 16-2 lead and were led to victory by the trio of Paige McCormick (19 points, 3 steals, 3 assists, 5 rebounds), Maddie St. Pierre (11 points, 4 steals, 3 assists) and Olivia St. Pierre (6 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists).

Logan Tallman buried two threes scoring eight points and Alexis Weidner passed out five assists to aid the win.

Makenzie Frary and Katie Smith each scored six points for E-K.


In the lone NAC varsity boys basketball action on Monday, Hammond gained a 40-32 interdivisional win on the road over Colton-Pierrepont.
