The Norwood-Norfolk Central boys and Massena Central girls got their 2013-14 hockey seasons off to a positive start on Monday.

BOYS HOCKEY

N-N 6, Tupper Lake 0: In an NAC Division II season opener staged at the Tupper Lake Civic Center, the visiting Icemen set the tone for the win in the opening minute with a pair of goals.

Ty Cotter, Zeb Brown, and Coby Munson scored first period goals as Madrid-Waddington students Jeff Mott, Kaden Pickering and Zeb Zabrobelny picked up assists

Pickering and Munson netted second-period goals four minutes apart and Cotter scored again in the third.

Brown and Mott both finished with a pair of helpers in the season-opening win where Senior Kyler MacIntire turned aside the 13 shots he faced backstopping the shutout.

Nathan Boyea stood tall making 41 saves working the Lumberjacks crease.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Massena 4, Lake Placid 1: At the Massena Arena, the host Lady Raiders broke open a close game with two goals less than two minutes apart midway through the second period before going on to notch the interdivisional win over the Blue Bombers.

Katie MacCuaig fashioned a natural hattrick in the winning effort. Molly Brockway also scored and chipped in an assist. Elizabeth Dimonte scored for Lake Placid,

Freshman Kyrsten Stone made the majority of her 20 saves in the third period where she turned aside the 13 shots she faced working the crease for the win while sophomore Tanner Stanton tallied 16 saves for the Bombers.

Saranac Lake 5, Salmon River 2: In another interdivisional matchup played at the Saranac Lake Civic Center, the host Red Storm overcame a second-period surge by the Lady Shamrocks in posting the win. McKayla Duffy scored twice for Saranac Lake.

Jenny DeJung and Mallory Johnson scored for Salmon River. Becca Leroux turned aside 31 shots tending the Salmon River goal while Lindsey Reeve made 17 stops for the Red Storm.
