CANTON - Frosty the Snowman is spreading winter cheer and joy to hundreds of people in the north country region as he makes a whirlwind tour at four Head Start centers throughout St. Lawrence County. This is Frostys first winter tour.
The 12-foot inflatable Frosty the Snowman was donated to St. Lawrence County Community Development Programs Head Start program by a local father, who prefers to remain anonymous. The father loves the holiday and winter season and wanted to spread winter joy with other St. Lawrence County families - especially children, Head Start Director Barbara Adams said.
With children it will all be in their eyes. The world of a child is so wide - the age of wonderment. Too often that doesnt happen, Adams said. This will not only benefit children, but children at heart as well.
Frosty started his north country tour at the Massena Head Start, 41 W. Orvis St., on Nov. 22. Frosty will spend four days, not counting weekends, at each designated center before traveling to the Norwood Head Start center, 22 Main St., and then traveling to the Potsdam Head Start center, ½ Lawrence Ave. Frosty will wrap up his tour at the Canton Head Start center, 8 Judson St., on Dec. 20.
Frosty will also serve as a goodwill ambassador for the Head Start program which serves 351 children throughout eight centers and home-based in St. Lawrence County. Head Start is a federally funded program started in 1965 by President Lyndon Johnsons War on Poverty. Head Start serves children aged 3 to 5 years old in primarily economically disadvantaged households to prepare the children for school.
I think it is good. It certainly brings one eye to a location and highlights our centers, Adams said.
It will point out to the public that something is going on there lets look and see what it is about.
Head Start continues to recruit children for all of its center and home based programs throughout St. Lawrence County. For information on HeadStart or other community development programs, please call 315-386-1102, email: firstname.lastname@example.org or visit our website, http://slccdp.org.
