OGDENSBURG — Step-by-Step Inc., 103 Ford St., will host its annual community health information fair today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

More than 20 social service and health organizations will be there to help answer health questions, find insurance plans, and set up bank accounts.

The fair is free and open to the public.

Organizations attending include the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services, Youth Advocacy Program and area banks. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center staff will also be on hand to do free blood pressure and sugar screenings.

Step-by-Step, the day drop-in center for between 35 and 55 mentally ill clients, has hosted the fair for several years.

The fair is designed to make the community familiar with agencies in St. Lawrence County that offer social or health service and programs that assist residents and families in need.

“It’s something valuable for everyone, not just members, especially someone who might be starting out on their own,” Step-By-Step assistant Skye M. Sharp said Tuesday. “Insurance is confusing right now, and this is a great way to learn how to apply.”

Connie M. Harrell, contract coordinator, said the fair is also one of the ways for the community to visit Step-by-Step’s new location. The non-profit agency moved from 211 Ford St. to its present location earlier this year.

“Our primary goal is to be more integrated with the community,” Ms. Harrell said. “We want our members to become a part of the community and we want the community to see the wide variety of services and accesses to support networks that help us improve and maintain the quality of life for our members.”

Lunch and refreshments will be served at 11:30 a.m.
