Pizza Hut employees chase down alleged burglar

CANTON — A Canton man is behind bars after he allegedly stole more than $1,000 from a Pizza Hut and was chased down by restaurant employees.

Village police charged Timothy J. Nara, 29, of 14 Park St., Canton, Sunday with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

It is alleged that at 10:07 a.m. Sunday, Mr. Nara entered the Pizza Hut, adjacent to the University Plaza, and snatched a money bag containing $1,083.05 off a counter. Restaurant employees reported the theft to village police and subsequently chased down Mr. Nara, who fled on foot. Police said the employees apprehended him on East Main Street and held him until police arrived.

All of the money was recovered, police said.

Mr. Nara was arraigned in Town Court and was taken to St. Lawrence County jail, where he was being held on $3,500 cash bail.
