The Ogdensburg Planning Board on Tuesday approved plans for a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in the 1100 block of Paterson Street.

Construction on the 1,532-square-foot drive-thru and eat-in restaurant will begin in April.

Voting in favor were Linda D. Pellett, Sean P. O’Brien, Michael P. Frary, Joshua K. Blair, Frank Perretta, Paul W. Stevenson and Paul Lesperance. Board chairman Timothy J. Redmond was absent.

Architect Robert C. Abbott Jr. said the Ogdensburg restaurant will be the 86th Dunkin’ Donuts franchise in a franchisee organization based in Portland, Maine.

The Ogdensburg restaurant will have an entrance-exit driveway off Paterson Street and an exit-only passing lane to nearby Canton Street. An easement agreement will be required with the owners of Burger King nearby at 732 Canton St.

City Planning and Development Director Andrea L. Smith said the restaurant will also have to be prepared to install sidewalks on Paterson Street, provide snow storage space and relocate its dumpster to an enclosed, less visible part of its property. The new Dunkin’ Donuts will be located across from McDonald’s restaurant, 1134 Paterson St., and is in a busy, traffic-heavy commercial district.

That concerns Mr. Frary.

“I think it’s going to be a problem,” he said.

Mr. Abbott said the Ogdensburg franchise will employ 15 people and have a capacity to seat 20 customers.
