Margaret J. Coppola, 85, of Flower Avenue E. died Wednesday at Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm.
Mrs. Coppola was born April 6, 1928, in Middleboro, KY, a daughter of John and Eva Brookes Baker. She was raised as a young girl by her mother and step-father Louis Simmons. Mrs. Coppola graduated from Watertown High School in 1947 and attended Jefferson Community College. She married Mariano Ally Coppola on June 27, 1948, with Reverend Claude Sechi officiating. Mr. Coppola died March 18, 2009. Mrs. Coppola was a manager for AAA Travel in Watertown where she was employed for thirty one years, retiring in 1992. She was a Girl Scout troupe leader while her children were involved. Mrs. Coppola was a communicant and a volunteer at Holy Family Church. She loved people and had a knack for carrying on a conversation with everyone. She excelled at cooking meals especially at the holidays, her life was her husband and children. She enjoyed reading and wintering in West Palm Beach. Fl with her husband.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Robert and Joyce Coppola of Brewerton; three daughters and their husbands, Melody J. and John Brough of Clay, Sherry L. and Ken Stone of Canton and Gina M. and Patrick Boulter of Watertown; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A brother Paul Baker and a sister Deloris Dee Harris died before her.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 - 8pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 10: 15 am at the funeral home followed by an 11 am funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Reverend Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
