WEST CARTHAGE — Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy J. Homan, High Street, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise family dinner on Nov. 28 at their children’s home. They will also celebrate with a dinner at Stefano’s Restaurant, Carthage, at a later date.

Mr. Homan, son of the late Roy and Angeline Homan, married Marilyn A. McVoy, daughter of the late Vern and Bernetta McVoy, on Dec. 5, 1953, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Castorland, with the late Rev. Eugene Homan officiating. Honor attendants were Marie Phelps, Tennessee, and the late Fred Homan, brother of the groom.

Mr. Homan attended local schools and served in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He retired from the New Jersey Guard at Fort Drum in 1990. He is a member of the Carthage Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion 789. He enjoys wood crafts, and has made numerous log cabin doll houses for various organizations. Those houses include all furniture, lawn chairs and benches.

Mrs. Homan graduated in 1951 from Lowville Academy and in 1952 from Morrisville and Cortland County Schools of Nursing. She worked for several years at the office of Drs. S.H. Henck and Rasmussen, Dr. S. Imdad and Carthage Area Hospital, later assisting people in their homes. She was named Carthage Citizen of the Year in 1989 and served as election inspector for Jefferson County. Mrs. Homan enjoys making filled cookies for shuti-ns and peanut butter fudge.

Mr. and Mrs. Homan are members of the Seniors Coffee Club at the West Carthage McDonald’s.

The couple has two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Y. and Marcy, Peterborough, N.H., and Rick and Cathy, West Carthage; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
