North Dakota outlasts Clarkson in women’s hockey


POTSDAM — Lisa Marvin scored the decisive goal with 13 minutes left to give North Dakota a 2-1 victory over Clarkson in a non-conference women’s hockey game between a pair nationally ranked top 10 teams on Friday at Cheel Arena.

Shelby Nisbet scored off a rebound in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 for the sixth-ranked Golden Knights (12-4-2).

Josefine Jakobsen scored the game’s first goal for the No. 4/5 Fighting Sioux (10-3-2). The two teams will play again at 3 p.m. today at Cheel.

SUNY Potsdam 2, St. Michael’s 0: Freshman goalie and Potsdam native Abby Tardelli made 19 saves to claim her first collegiate shutout, leading the Bears to a nonconference victory over the Purple Knights (0-8) in South Burlington, Vt.

Jessica Silveira scored and assisted on Amanda Lucky’s goal for SUNY Potsdam (5-4-2).

SUNY Oswego 3, SUNY Canton 1: Caroline Mundy scored her first career goal but it wasn’t enough for the Roos (4-4-2), who lost a nonconference game to the Lakers in Oswego.

Ashley Lyman, Bridget Hamlin and Melissa Seamont scored for SUNY Oswego (7-2-1).


SUNY Oswego 7, SUNY Potsdam 1: Shawn Hulshof scored twice in the first period as the Lakers routed the Bears in a SUNYAC game at Oswego.

Bobby Gertsakis and Mike Montagna each dished out three assists for SUNY Oswego (5-2, 4-2). Mike Arnold scored for SUNY Potsdam (2-7, 0-6).

Western New England 6, SUNY Canton 3: Brian Prost supplied two goals as the Golden Bears (6-3-0) beat the Kangaroos in Springfield, Mass.

Cory Giczewski, Sean Gallagher and Kristian Leach each netted a goal for SUNY Canton (1-9-1).


SUNY Cortalnd 78, SUNY Potsdam 53: Lamard Herron scored 34 points to go with six steals and five assists, leading the Red Dragons (4-0, 1-0) past the Bears in the SUNYAC opener for both teams in Cortland.

Josh Blagrove scored 10 points to lead SUNY Potsdam (1-5, 0-1).

Houghton 104, SUNY Canton 89: Khalil Bratton scored 27 points, but the Roos were beaten by the hot-shooting Highlanders (2-5) in a nonconference game in Houghton.

Khalid Vaughn and Sam Annorh added 14 and 13 points, respectively, for SUNY Canton (0-6).

Houghton shot 61 percent from the floor, including a 47-percent clip behind the 3-point line.


SUNY Cortland 69, SUNY Potsdam 57: Caysea Cohen finished with game highs of 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the Red Dragons (5-2, 1-0) past the Bears in the SUNYAC opener for both teams in Cortland.

Jessica Kouzan provided 18 points and eight boards, while Bailey Weigel contributed a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds for SUNY Potsdam (2-3, 0-1).
