The OFA Boys dropped a thriller while the OFA Girls enjoyed a strong defensive effort in a victory in the first day of the Capital District Shootout at Adirondack Community College on Friday.

Reigning NYS Federation Class A Champion Albany Academy shaded the OFA Boys 65-63 while the Lady Devils controlled Plattsburgh High School 43-25.

GIRLS RIDE DEFENSE

A shutdown defensive effort out of zone alignment led the OFA Girls to a 43-25 victory over Plattsburgh High School.

“We really needed this win. We really shut them down and a lot of players contributed,” said OFA Coach Lynn Blevins after the contest where OFA yielded just nine first-half points.“We are a work in progress but the girls are working very hard.”

Riley Luckie led the offense netting three threes in a 16-point effort and Susie Morrow tallied 11 points from the interior. Meg Dodge and Taylor Perry combined for three three-pointers scoring eight and five points.

EARLY SEASON GEM

Kinnon LaRose (14 rebounds, 6 3s, 6-7 FT shooting) completed a superb 30-point outing with two threes in the final 90 seconds to erase a six-point deficit and set up a dramatic climax to an outstanding game before a large crowd.

The Cadets took a two-point lead with two free throws and OFA’s Colin Ross drove to the basket but was called for a charge. “Colin (Ross) went all the way to the hole and his shot almost went down. I was really surprised that he was called for charge,” said OFA Coach Mark Henry. “But it was a really good game in a great atmosphere. We played well against a very good team and both teams looked to get out and run.”

Matt Piercey tallied 13 points with three threes and passed out five assists while Colin Ross hit two threes in a 10-point effort and snatched three steals for OFA. John Montopolous and Matt Knezovic led Albany Academy with 18 and 11 points.
