Body image is a large part of everyones life; most people see their body in a negative manner.
Why do we have such negative feelings toward our image? A big impact today is media in society and our families or the people we see every day. Why should we have to change our bodies because there is a set norm in society how one should look to be beautiful or handsome?
Media play a major role in our life, and both women and men are highly affected.
The average body size on how women should look is getting smaller and smaller. For males, the media show they should be fit with large muscles.
At a young age, kids are taught from toys and media that they should look a certain way from magazines, commercials, television shows and even items like Barbie dolls. If a girl or boy does not fit that image, they get made fun of in school, which can lead to serious depression and eating disorders.
We need to teach that media do not show the true sides of beauty and that Photoshop plays a big role in media. Thats why everyone needs family support to tell them they are beautiful just the way they are.
Lets not point out others flaws. Instead, we should highlight what makes others beautiful or handsome.
See if you can try and stop a case of depression from forming or an eating disorder from developing. Children are learning and seeing more at a younger age, so we need to start teaching that everyone is different in their own way and everyone is beautiful.
