As an athlete and avid sports fan, I am writing you with sincere concern about the way our youths are being educated about concussion and concussion prevention.
We have always heard about concussions in sports like football and hockey, but only recently have we heard about the detrimental effects of repeated concussions.
Concussions have a serious impact on someones life not only in the weeks after the injury but long term.
In a recent article written by Joseph Nordqvist for Medical News Today, he stated that there was a study done on older athletes in which it discovered that athletes who suffered from concussions showed signs and symptoms of early Parkinsons disease.
Other tests from this study have shown that head trauma can also lead to developing Alzheimers disease.
With information like this being proved as facts, it only seems right that we start educating our children about the importance of concussions and prevention.
Children need to learn that its important to seek help and not hide their signs and symptoms.
I urge you to help spread the word about concussions and make a difference in lives of youths who are actively engaged in athletics.
Thank you for your time.
