Watch out, crows.

Biologists from Loomacres Wildlife Management, Warnerville, will begin this season’s crow hazing on Dec. 19. Until then, the biologists are asking residents to report where the pesky population of 30,000 crows are roosting this season.

Loomacres has provided a website and toll-free phone hotline to collect reports on the location of the crow flock. Residents are encouraged to provide the location, estimated size of flocks, and dates and times of sightings. Loomacres Wildlife Management will use this information when they start crow-hazing activities.

To harass the crows, Loomacres biologists will use pyrotechnics, lasers and other devices similar to sirens and fireworks. The city agreed on a three-year contract with Loomacres to handle crow-hazing activities.

Last month, the Watertown City Council expressed concerns about health and safety issues of crows making their home here during the cold weather.

Crows leave droppings on sidewalks, vehicles and buildings and seemingly all over some city neighborhoods.

In November, Councilman Joseph M. Butler Jr. proposed using high-powered pellet guns to kill a few crows to scare away the remainder of the flock. That recommendation has not been acted on.

For further information or questions, contact the City Manager’s Office at 785-7730.

The toll-free phone number to report crow activates in the city of Watertown is 1-800-243-1462. To report crow activities online, go to http://wdt.me/pTqgTh.
