The National Weather Service is forecasting 12 to 24 inches of lake effect snow over a 34-hour period starting at 6 p.m. today.

Jefferson, Oswego and Lewis counties should expect 5 to 10 inches of snow tonight; 5 to 9 inches during the day on Wednesday and 3 to 6 inches Wednesday night. The lake effect snow warning will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday.

Westerly winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph will likely lead to poor visibility and rapid changes in road conditions, making it difficult to drive, according to the weather service.
