Shoplifting complaint at Potsdam Walmart leads to charges for Ogdensburg man

AGGRAVATED UNLICENSED OPERATION - POTSDAM - St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged Robert H. Johnson, Jr., 30, of 230 Brown Road, Ogdensburg, with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and a misdemeanor count of having a motor vehicle equipped with a scanner Tuesday after responding to a shoplifting complaint at the Potsdam Walmart. Deputies said when they arrived at Walmart they were told the vehicle with a person involved in the larceny had fled the scene on Route 11. They said Johnson was located a short distance away. When questioned about the larceny, deputies said Johnson had he had been alone when we went to Walmart. But they said store video contradicted his version of the event and showed a second person, who had ridden to the store with the Ogdensburg man, had fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of deputies. They said the scanner was located during a consensual search of the vehicle. The investigation is continuing.
