MASSENA - The Salmon River varsity girls basketball team spoiled Massena Central’s home debut by rallying to fashion a 59-50 NAC Central Division decision on Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to a quick lead in each of the first two quarters but only led 27-24 at the half and the Lady Shamrocks turned the game in their favor with a 14-7 run in the third quarter then sealed the win by outscoring the home team 21-16 in the fourth.

The duo of Jaden Mitchell, who notched a game-high six steals, and Taylor Francis (6 rebounds, 5 steals) anchored the winning offense with 23 and 22 points respectively. Kwiio King turned in a stellar all-around performance with 13 rebounds, five assists, five points and four steals. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Shamrocks (2-0) were Tsiotenhanio Herne with four points, Jocelyn Martin (7 rebounds) with three and Brittany Brooks with two.

Samanntha Villnave posted her second straight double-double in the losing effort, working the paint for a team-high 18 points and 15 rebounds. Bailie Young tallied 14 points, five assists and three streals. Robin Boudreau and Jessica Rode (5 rebounds, 3 steals) added four points apiece followed by Maeve Curran and Devin Kelly with three points apiece while Jaylee Jones (4 assists, 3 steals) and Stephanie McKeel closed out teh Lady Raider scoresheet with two points each.

The other Central Division games on Tuesday saw Canton drop Potsdam and Franklin Academy beat Gouverneur.

Canton 100, Potsdam 19: In Potsdam, Tori Daley led a potent Canton offense with 24 points followed by Kali Frank with 15 while Rachel Sanderson and Natalie DiSalvo both tossed through 14.

Alexis Peterson paced the Lady Sandstoners with 10 points.

FA 67, Gouverneur 22: In Gouverneur, the Lady Huskies raced out to a commanding 23-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Katie Lamica led a balanced offense with 12 points followed by Meghan O’Connor with 11 and Emily Marshall with eight.

Danielle Bullock had eight points in the losing cause followed by Haley Easton with six.

OTHER GIRLS HOOPS

In the two NAC East Division games played on Tuesday, Colton-Pierrepont outscored Tupper Lake 46-30 and Chateaugay downed Brushton-Moira 43-25 while the only West Division contest saw Edwards-Knox outlast Harrisville 39-38.

C-P 46, Tupper Lake 30: In Tupper Lake, Morgan Doyle fired through 27 points, including a 9-10 showing from the foul line to lead the Lady Colts to their first win in two tries this season. Madison Gregg contributed seven points, including the lone three-pointer of the night for C-P, followed by Courtney Marsh with six, Andrea Aldous with four and Eve Whalen with two as the Lady Colts worked their way to a 21-15 halftime lead then took control with a 12-6 third-quarter run.

Freshman Katie Zurek paced the Lumberjacks (0-4, 0-2) with 14 points. Senior Lizzie Zurek added nine points followed by Sidney Kulzer with four and Amie Luton with three.

Chateaugay 43, B-M 25: Brianna Cook tossed through 13 points and Hannah Cook connected for another 10 as the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) used a 16-4 third-quarter outburst to pull away from a 19-13 halftime lead in the East Division opener for both squads.

Arielle Gary paced the Lady Panthers (1-1) followed by Jenna Dufrane with eight points.
