OGDENSBURG — The City Department of Public Works will no longer be collecting bagged yard waste — including leaves, trees and tree parts — curb-side in the city.

The policy comes about after an August inspection of the city landfill on Outer Champlain Street by the state Department of Environmental Conservation revealed that several bags of leaves, as well as already forbidden bags of garbage, wood pallets and construction and demolition debris, were dumped there.

The city was cited by DEC with a violation. City Public Works Director Kit W. Smith said the no-bag directive — which includes Christmas trees — is effective immediately.
