MASSENA - Massena High School was locked down for about 30 minutes early Wednesday afternoon after two students required medical treatment from the Massena Rescue Squad.
We had a medical emergency at the high school. As a result, Massena Rescue came, Superintendent William W. Crist said.
The Massena Police Department also responded to the scene.
The high school was put into a lockdown to give emergency responders the room they needed to take care of the students, Mr. Crist said.
Its really easier for the medical people to into the building and through the building if we just put students into the classroom and keep the halls cleared. During that time frame we had the high school on lockdown, he said.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., and the school was in lockdown for about 30 minutes, he said.
Mr. Crist said two students who appeared to be ingesting something were involved.
Were still looking into that. The office was notified and the office investigated. There were two students involved. Short of that, were still trying to get all of the necessary information, he said.
Mr. Crist declined to say if the students had been transported to the hospital for treatment.
Appropriate medical procedures were put into place by the professionals that were contacted to come and address the situation, he said. We are certainly appreciative of the Massena Police Department and Massena Rescue for the work theyve done. It was a pretty quick response.
