HARRISVILLE, NY / Cocoa Beach, FL ~ Eleanor M. Grigg, 93, of 7507 Richards Rd., died unexpectedly on Monday, December 9, 2013 at her Lake Bonaparte home.

Born November 12, 1920, in Harrisville, NY, a daughter of Runa and Anna Luther Kilbourn, she was a 1937 graduate of Harrisville High School. Following high school, she attended and was graduated from a New York City Business College and went to work for Pine Camp (now Ft. Drum) and Curtis-Wright in Buffalo.

A World War II veteran, Mrs. Grigg entered the US Army on February 11, 1943, and served as a Stenographer with the Army Air Corps until being honorably discharged as a Sergeant from Cochran Field AAFPS in Macon, Georgia on August 9, 1944.

She married Wilbur L. Grigg, a highly decorated WWII veteran, on May 4, 1944, in Jeffersonville, Georgia. Mr. Grigg died on April 12, 1986.

In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, she had worked in her earlier years at an Insurance Company in New York City, at the former Hirschey’s Ford in Harrisville, and alongside her sister, Janette LaParr, as a waitress at the former LaParr’s Restaurant in Harrisville. Additionally, she took a position with the US Postal Service at the Harrisville, NY Post Office, from where she retired in the late 1970’s after several years of service.

Always an extremely active person, Mrs. Grigg enjoyed traveling, golfing and bowling, was an avid reader, and was particularly known as a very competitive Bridge player until the time of her death. She especially liked spending time with her family and winters in Florida, and was preparing to leave with her family at the time of her death.

Mrs. Grigg was a life-time member of the Harrisville Christian Church in Harrisville, and was a member of the VFW Post 10131 in Cape Canaveral, FL.

She is survived by her children including four sons and three daughters-in-law, Rodney L. and Helen Grigg, and Norris G. Grigg, all of Spencerport, NY, Douglas C. and Renee Grigg, and Gordon A. and Julia Grigg, all of Watertown, NY; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her brother, Reuben Kilbourn, of Harrisville, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by five sisters, Juanita Kilbourn, Verna Pratt, Olive “Polly” Sayers, Janette LaParr and Barbara Vallencour, and three brothers, Merton Kilbourn, William Kilbourn and George Kilbourn.

A Memorial Service and Committal for Eleanor will be held later in the Spring at the Harrisville Christian Church and Harrisville Community Cemetery, respectively, at a date and time to be announced.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Harrisville Christian Church, P.O. Box 205, Harrisville, NY 13648.
