Ogdensburg library clerk makes tabletop Christmas tree out of book pages

It figures. Leave it to a librarian make a Christmas tree out of book pages.

Ogdensburg Public Library senior library clerk Jo-Ellen Murray has done just that. All it took was glue, 600 book pages, a few hours of time and some imagination.

The result is a two-foot-high, three-tiered tabletop Christmas tree that can seen at the library at 312 Washington St. Ms. Murray also made a miniature snowman of the same materials.

Ms. Murray’s inspiration for this unusual take on a timeless yuletide symbol was surprisingly modern.

Or maybe not.

“I got it off the Internet,” she said Wednesday. “All you need to do is Google ‘Christmas book art.’”

There are 200 pages per tier, all pulled from old law journals and atlases discarded by the library following its recent fall book sale. The Christmas tree took about two hours to put together.

“We had a good time with it,” Ms. Murray said. “Hopefully, I’ll save it for next year.”

Library Director Wayne L. Miller envisions Ms. Murray teaching a class on how to build a book page Christmas tree.

“She’s so crafty,” he said. “I think it’s great idea.”
