MORRISTOWN - Morristown Central had two goals in mind on Wednesday evening against Hermon-DeKalb in NAC West girls basketball action.

The Rockets (2-2, 1-1 NAC) accomplished one and came close to number two against the Demons who posted a 2-0 record.

“We wanted keep Hermon-DeKalb under 60 points and we wanted to score 20. We came close but we still made a lot of mistakes and were pretty sloppy,” said MCS Coach Rich Rupert whose team fell 54-18 in the NAC hoop game of the day.

“Hermon-DeKalb has excellent quickness and they are physical.”

The Demons raced out to a 14-0 start sparked by Courtney Harrington’s eight first quarter points. Hermon-DeKalb led 30-5 at halftime and led 48-12 after three when Hunter Hitchman erupted to nine points.

Hitchman scored 17 points including three threes and posted four steals. Harrington tallied 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Morgan Stott (8 rebounds, 7 steals, 3 assists) and Bridget Rust (5 rebounds) each scored seven while Delaney Kerr posted five points, three steals and six boards. Kasey O’Donnell added seven steals.

Taylor Piercey tallied six points and eight boards. Jessica Geddes added five points and three rebounds while Jordyn Tulley added five points. Liz Troiano had four boards.

In the junior varsity game, Morristown trimmed Hermon-DeKalb 25-24.

Haley Whitmarsh scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter for MCS while Meghan Vollmer added 12.

Zarina Hernandez scored seven and Selena Wright added six leading Hermon-DeKalb. Kelsi Shippee hit a big three in the fourth quarter keeping the Demons in range until the final buzzer.

M-W SKATERS AID 3-0 N-N

In NAC hockey action Madrid-Waddington skaters enjoyed a productive night as Norwood-Norfolk climbed to 3-0 with a 6-2 win over Malone.

N-N 6 - Malone 3: Austin Cousineau scored two goals with two assists to lead Norwood-Norfolk (3-0, 2-0) past the Huskies in a Division II game in Malone (2-1 NAC).

Coby Munson also scored twice for the Flyers. Kaden Pickering and Zeb Brown each scored one goal and assisted on three. Shane Cryderman passed out two assists abnd Tanner Uppstrom and Jake Perry added one setup.

Kyler Head, Josh Tremblay and Jake Henning scored for the Huskies (2-1).

Brandon Richards turned aside 18 shots in the winning effort while Joey Brown posted 32 saves for the Huskies.

Salmon River 5 - Potsdam 4: Nathan Smoke and Sean David scored goals early in the third period to lift Salmon River (2-2-1, 1-0) in a DI matchup. Potsdam (1-2, 0-1 NAC) Tyren Boots, Tye Terrance and Kyle Lewis also scored for Salmon River. Corson Green scored three goals for the Sandstoners and Logan Ford also scored.

Massena 4 - Islanders 0: Connor Paquin stopped 12 shots to lead Massena. Dylan Stone, Tyler Young, Dalton Mullin and Patrick Manning scored for the Red Raiders (2-2, 2-0).
