The lone other Central Division game slated for Thursday between OFA and Gouverneur was postponed. In East Division action, St. Regis Falls turned back Madrid-Waddington 50-41 and Tupper Lake downed Brushton-Moira 55-43 while a pair of West Division games saw Morristown beat Heuvelton 48-36 and Edwards-Knox outlast Hermon-DeKalb 50-48.
In the only girls basketball contest, Lisbon posted a 57-51 decision over West Division rival Edwards-Knox.
SRF 50, M-W 41: The Saints used a 19-6 run in the second quarter to erase an 11-6 M-W lead and warded off repeated Yellowjacket comeback bids in the second half of the NAC East matchup. The Yellowjackets pressure defense and clutch shooting cut the deficit to 33-30 entering the fourth quarter.
We did a good job maintaining our composure, for the most part, said St. Regis Falls coach Justin Todd. Aaron (Jones) did a real good job of getting his team to focus defensively on Brandon (Votra). He was doubled, and sometimes, tripled teamed. And they were physical against him also, which shows just how tough of a player he has become, continued Todd.
Votra managed his fifth consecutive double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Corey LaBounty added a 12-point, eight-rebound effort while Louis Goodrow came through with 10 points and six boards.
Maurice Rease led M-W with 13 points followed by Zach Brock with 10 and Dave Odendahl and Jacob Barney with six apiece.
