ALBANY - The Massena Central girls hockey opened an early-season road trip on a positive note Thursday by netting a 2-1 non-league win over Albany Academy.
The Lady Raiders improved to 4-0 with the win and will be heading across Lake Champlain to Vermont to compete in a tournament hosted by Bellows Free Academy. They play BFA tonight at 7:15 p.m. before taking on Essex on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
In the win over Albany, Massena fell behind 5:39 into the second period when Maura Mulligan finished off a play set up by Hannah Pulchinski. Freshman Katie MacCuaig helped spark a quick turnaround for the Lady Raiders, tying the game at the 7:10 mark off an assist from Ellen Greene then setting up junior Bailey Dillabough just 11 seconds later for what would hold up as the game winner.
Sophomore Maddi Dillabough stood tall turning aside 29 of the shots she faced backstopping the win while the duo of Zoe Shannon (6 saves) and Rachel Peterson (7 saves) shared crease duties for Albany Academy.
In the lone NAC boys hockey matchup on Thursday, OFA (3-3, 2-2) turned back Division II rival Tupper Lake 2-0.
Jared Barr scored the only goal the host Blue Devils would need just 3:11 into the game by finishing off a play set up by Burke Comeau and Austin Putman. Mark Morrow added the insurance goal less than two minutes later assisted by Putman and Dylan Jock.
David Prudhomme turned aside the 18 shots he faced working the crease for the shutout while Tyler Nilsson had 20 saves for the Lumberjacks (0-3).
