CAPE VINCENTTwo inmates at the Cape Vincent Correctional Facility were arrested Thursday morning after state police said they attempted to bring weapons into the facility.
Police said Mamadou Fofana, 27, and Marcel N. Smith, 33, were caught in possession of the weapons during a random check. Mr. Fofana is accused of possessing a toothbrush with a razor blade melted into it; Mr. Smith is said to have had a 3-inch sharpened nail with a makeshift masking tape handle.
Both were charged on one count each of first-degree prison contraband and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Mr. Fofana was arrested at 9:38 a.m.; Mr. Smith was arrested at 10:04 a.m. Both were sent back to the Cape Vincent prison and will answer the charges in Town Court.
