The Ogdensburg City Council has approved volunteer board appointments.

Councilors on Monday voted 7-0 in favor of appointments and reappointments to several of the city’s standing boards and commissions.

“We appreciate these people who volunteer their time, energy and resources to these committees,” said Mayor William D. Nelson. “They help make Ogdensburg a great place to live.”

Named to serve effective Jan. 1 were:

n Rashmi Vaish, Lynn S. Fox and Richard Johnson, each appointed to a three-year term to the Frederic Remington Art Museum Board of Trustees.

n Mary B. Michaels and Francine Naccarato, each reappointed to a three-year term to the Ogdensburg Pride and Beautification Commission.

n Paul W. Stevenson, reappointed to a three-year term to the Ogdensburg Planning Board.

n Larry G. Mitchell and Thomas Pinkerton, each reappointed to a seven-year term to the Ogdensburg Recreation Commission.

n Donald H. O’Shea, Glory P. Martel and Timothy Irvine, each reappointed to a three-year term to the Ogdensburg Tree Commission.

Mrs. Martel, a commission member since 2004, is right at home with her volunteer appointment. She is a retired stenographer with the state Department of Environmental Conservation Land and Forestry Division.

“I learned a lot,” she said Friday.

The tree commission participates in the annual planting of trees throughout the city and the yearly Arbor Day observance.

Ogdensburg is a certified Tree City USA.

“It’s a great group,” Mrs. Martel said of the tree commission. “Because we do something worthwhile.”
