MORRISTOWN - It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win according to Morristown Boys Basketball Coach George Beaulieu after his Rockets denied Heuvelton 48-36 to improve to 2-1 on the NAC West season on Thursday.

One other West matchup saw Edwards-Knox nip Hermon-DeKalb 50-48.

“We played a better second half but we played sloppy at times. I told the team we needed to slow things down in the second half. Coach Josh McAllister really had his team prepared tonight being down two key players,” said Beaulieu.

Jake VanArnam supplied three three-pointers enroute to a 15 point effort for Morristown. Jacob Fox tallied 14 while Zach Kanaly added 11.

Ryan Vollmer scored five and provided several key assists for the Rockets.

Casey Smith scored 11 points for Heuvelton. Jack Palmer and Dylan Liscum each tallied seven and Joe McDonnell added five.

In the junior varsity game, Heuvelton won 62-16. Skyler Osuch tallied 13 points, Noah Steele delivered 10, Collin Trathen added eight and Josh Cotey scored seven to lead the Bulldogs.

Lincoln Hall and Christian Johnson scored eight and six respectively for Morristown.

E-K 50, Hermon-DeKalb 48: Kaden Dandrow buried a foul line jumper with 2.4 seconds to play to break a 48-48 tie and E-K denied a shot at the buzzer by the Demons.

“We did everything we could to stop Kaden Dandrow but he just so strong. He got a lot of points on the offensive boards,” said H-D Coach Clay Denesha.

“We were down 8-1 early but changed our defense and did a good job coming back. We are getting better and this was just a classic Hermon-DeKalb vs Edwards-Knox game.”

Dandrow finished with 32 points on the night and Jordan Davis netted eight for the winners. Cody Merritt delivered 25 points and eight rebounds for H-D with a series of strong finishes at the goal.

“Cody Merritt did a great job in transition. He had several tough finishes which led to and-ones,” said Denesha.

Zach Robinson tallied six points for H-D and Pat Woodrow and Reilly O’Donnell each netted five.
