Rev. Walter J. Lashley

Rev. Walter J. Lashley went to be with the Lord December 12, 2013. He enjoyed a very full life, but toward the end endured much sickness.

He served in The Marines, returning home to marry Betty M. Westcott and open his own business as a dental technician in The Woolworth Building for eight years. He then went to work for Dr. Stabbins.

In his spare time he and his wife took night class which enabled them to build two homes in Watertown. One home was the first electric home in the North Country and was acknowledged by Niagara Mohawk.

After receiving a call from God to go into the ministry, he and his wife took Berean Course from The Assemblies of God. They did supply pastor work until their first full-time pastorate in Woodbourne, New York. It was there they built a beautiful church to glorify God and where many accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They also pastored a home planting church in Ellenville, New York.

Upon retiring to Colton, New York to be with their daughter and son-in-law, April and Al Bender, they continued in active ministry serving their Lord. A grandson, Alfred Tobias Michael Bender was born and was a joy until God called him home at the age of 16.

Moving back to Watertown to share the rest of their 70 years of marriage (minus two months), Betty and Walter enjoyed family, sharing Jesus, and many hobbies. Despite being sick since last April, Walter continued to love and share Jesus. He wished that all would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and choose eternal life.

He is survived by his wife Betty M. Lashley, daughter April M. Bender, son-in-law Alfred T. Bender, brother-in-laws Frank Westcott and Charles Day, and several greatly loved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home at 632 State Street, Watertown, NY at 3:00pm on Monday, December 16, 2013. A calling hour will precede the service from 2:00pm - 3:00pm. The Rev. Dr. Duane Durst, Superintendent of the Assemblies of God will be officiating.

The family extends their thankfulness and heartfelt love to all who have expressed their sympathy. Donations can be made in his name to the Hills of Windsor, New York State District Ministry Center, 8130 Oswego Road, Liverpool, New York 13090, (315) 622-2700.

Arrangements are with Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Inc.
