HEUVELTON - Firefighters battled flames at 124 Lost Village Rd. on Monday night, braving temperatures that dipped below zero with a wind chill and, according to preliminary reports, preventing the home from being totally destroyed.
The cause of the fire that began at roughly 8 p.m. is still unknown. No injuries were reported. The home is owned by Kristopher E. Weston.
The Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene and assisted by crews with the Morristown and Brier Hill Volunteer Fire Departments.
Firefighters could be seen pulling Christmas presents out of the home even as water was applied to the homes roof, where smoke poured out of a hole torn open by flames.
Crews managed to subdue the flames by 9 p.m.
Further information was not available as of Monday night.
