Mining explosives company to build a manufacturing and distribution facility in Ogdensburg.

A Utah-based mining explosives company will build a manufacturing and distribution facility in Ogdensburg.

Maxam North America, Inc. of Salt Lake City, will build on 12.41 acres of land it bought for $123,000 from the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority.

The property is located in the OBPA’s heavy industrial park along Route 37 on the city’s southeast side.

The sale was confirmed and approved at Wednesday’s authority board meeting.

“This is excellent news for the north country,” said Wade A. Davis, the authority’s executive director.

On its website, Maxam North America describes itself as “a worldwide manufacturer, distributor of commercial explosives, accessories and technical services, acclaimed for delivering product innovation and optimal blast performance for clients in the mining, quarrying and construction industries.”

The company was founded in 1979.

Maxam has facilities in Utah, Wyoming, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Arkansas, West Virginia, Michigan, British Columbia, Quebec and Alberta.

Maxam officials were unavailable for comment Wednesday night.
