MASSENA - Massena Memorial Hospital has received nearly $3,000 from the Children’s Miracle Network of Northern New York at Samaritan Medical Center.

Chief Executive Officer Charles F. Fahd II said the hospital was one of a eight recipients of the 2013 Children’s Miracle Network Capital Grants program.

“Through the program, it’s one more way north country health care organizations can collaborate to ensure access to high-quality health care for our communities, especially in this case our children,” Mr. Fahd said.

CMN awarded $65,593.54 in capital grants to eight local hospitals and health care organizations, bringing their total to nearly $300,000 that’s been awarded to hospitals and health care organizations throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties since CMN’s inception, according to Mr. Fahd.

Massena Memorial Hospital applies on an annual basis and has received funding “for a number of years,” he said.

“We currently operate the largest pediatric adolescent practice in St. Lawrence County,” he said.

Mr. Fahd said they plan to use the $2,982 grant to “further the education of our clinic physicians and personnel on the subject of autism” in pediatric patients. With additional support from the Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation, training will be provided in the spring to X-ray technicians, phlebotomists, nurses, physicians, first responders and local law enforcement officials.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital had also received $10,000 in funding to purchase a pediatric ultrasound transducer and ultrasound probe for neonatal head, pediatric abdomen, pediatric hip, renal and pelvic imaging.

Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for CMN-affiliated hospitals across North America.

According to their website, funds raised through Children’s Miracle Network help enhance programs and services and are used to purchase the most advanced life-saving medical equipment needed to care for children.

CMN makes it possible for participating hospitals to maintain, upgrade and equip child-centered areas of their facilities, as well as to continue to meet the needs of children and families in their local communities.
