Shelters and warming centers that were established in Colton, Gouverneur and Edwards will close at noon today as National Grid crews are expected to make significant progress throughout the day in restoring power to the remaining 1,300 households without electricity.

Some homes will have individual power issues for the next day or two but the majority will have service returned by late tonight, St. Lawrence County Administrator Karen M. St. Hilaire said in a release.

National Grid will maintain extra crews in the area until the majority of outages are addressed. Anyone with a lingering or new power outage should call National Grid at 1-800-867-5222.

The county’s Emergency Operations Center will shut down at noon, but the 911 dispatch center will continue to be open 24 hours a day. Due to ice that remains, the county’s state of emergency declaration will continue until the threat of falling limbs that could cut power lines or block roads is past.
