Massena boys nip Tully


CHITTENANGO - A big shot and a big stop carried undefeated Massena to a 55-54 win over Tully in the first round of the Chittenango Tournament on Friday night.

Massena will play Solvay in the championship game tonight.

Zevon Viskovich buried a three-pointer with just under a minute to play to give the 6-0 Raiders a 55-54 lead and Coach Tom Miller’s team protected it by denying a quality shot in the closing seconds.

“We got off to a fast start and then we struggled to score at times. In the fourth qarter it was back and fourth,” said Miller.

“They had the ball last but we didn’t let them have a good shot at the end.”

Rhodes Tarbell tallied 15 points to lead a balanced Massena offense and Viskovich followed with nine along with Logan Deshane. Xavier Viskovich added seven points and Chris Russell paced Tully with a game-high 19 points.


Meanwhile, at the Section 10 vs. Section 7 Challenge Malone rolled past Plattsburgh 51-13 and Northeast Clinton defeated Massena 58-36.At Jefferson Community College, Gouverneur topped Sackets Harbor 44-31.

NEC 58, Massena 36: Opening up to a 36-18 lead at halftime, NEC held on against host Massena.

The Lady Cougars had three players reach double figures and were led by the double-double performance of Kayle Carter, who finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Shaylynn Rowe and Emily Sample followed with 15 and 10 points, respectively, as NCCS moved to 5-2 on the season.

Sam Villnave was the lone Massena player to strike for double figures, finishing the game with 13 points and adding six rebounds to the Red Raiders’ cause.

Malone51, Plattsburgh 13: Sparked by a 9-0 run to start the Huskies never looked back against the Hornets.

Morgan Fountain (7 steals) led a balanced FA output with 11 points. Meghan O’Connor and Rachel Lamica, combined for 16 points. Lamica finished with nine points, as O’Connor dropped in seven and hauled down a dozen rebounds.

Ashley Marlow paced the PHS Hornets (0-6) with five points.


Watertown IHC 69, Harrisville 64: Jude Fusilli scored 21 points as the Cavaliers beat the Pirates in the first round of the Sackets Harbor Tournament.

Miles Sexton netted 17 points for Immaculate Heart Central (7-0).

Nate Weaver was the game’s high scorer with 29 points for Harrisville (4-2).
