CANTON — Spicy Iguana, a Latin restaurant in Midtown Plaza, is now closed.

The recent ice storm prompted the owners to shut down a few days earlier than planned.

“It just didn’t work out for us financially,” said Susan K. Willson, co-owner. “It’s a small town with a small customer base.”

The restaurant, 21 Miner St., opened in March 2010 and had been managed since then by Ms. Willson’s husband, Fernando V. Pantoja, a native of Ecuador.

It offered Latin and Mexican meals for lunch and dinner, live music and alcoholic beverages.

Ms. Willson said the couple is looking for someone to either take over the restaurant or purchase its equipment. The building is owned by Aubuchon Hardware Co., which used to run a store there.

Besides Mr. Pantoja, the restaurant had three employees.

William “Bill” Hull, a Spicy Iguana customer who stopped at the restaurant Thursday to find the doors locked, said he was disappointed.

“This was a wonderful, authentic restaurant,” Mr. Hull said. “I enjoyed eating here and I’m sorry to see it close.”

Spicy Iguana is adjacent to North Country Neighbors Too, a flea market that also rents space from Aubuchon.

Timothy M. Connelly, who operates the flea market with his wife, said he would consider expanding into the Spicy Iguana space if that option is available.

He has about 15 vendors on a waiting list and believes he would be able to fill the space.

“We’d certainly be able to manage more space,” Mr. Connelly said.
