The National Weather Service predicts the area could receive 4 to 8 inches of lake effect snow and feel the impact of winds of up to 30 miles per hour throughout the day.
The agency issued a lake effect snow advisory for Jefferson and Lewis counties early Tuesday morning.
The agency said motorists should prepare for rapid changes in road conditions and visibility through the day, at some points getting to as low as a quarter mile.
