SUNY Potsdam hockey tops St. Anselm, 5-2

POTSDAM — Vinny Caligiuri scored three goals to lead the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team to a 5-2 win over St. Anselm in a nonconference game Friday night at Maxcy Hall.

The win for the Bears (4-7) came against a St. Anselm team coached by former SUNY Potsdam coach Ed Seney, who guided the Bears from 1988-2002.

Erick Ware and Todd Thomas also scored for SUNY Potsdam. Greg Merrill and Kody Grondin scored for St. Anselm (3-4-2).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CLARKSON 7, MCGILL 0

Brittany Styner scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Golden Knights won an exhibition game at Cheel Arena.

Jenna Boss made 14 saves for Clarkson, which also received goals from Vanessa Plante, Cayley Mercer, Renata Fast, Genevieve Bannon, Erin Ambrose and Vanessa Gagnon.

Clarkson senior Jamie Lee Rattray, who added an assist, was named the ECAC Hockey Women’s Player of the Month after scoring three goals in three games.

UTICA 3, SUNY CANTON 2

Kelsey Dowdall scored unassisted on a power play with 1 minute, 29 seconds left in the game to lead Utica past the Kangaroos (4-8-2) in a nonconference game in Canton.

Morgan Reed and Megan Myers also scored for Utica (7-2). Karley Cree and Jessica Kistabish scored for SUNY Canton.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

NEW YORK 87, CLARKSON 77 (OT)

The Golden Knights (5-3) blew an 18-point lead and wound up falling to host New York University in its own tournament at New York City.

John Coleman scored 21 points to lead Clarkson, which had a 43-25 lead early in the second half.

Marques Charlton scored 17 points, including a free throw with 12 seconds left that forced overtime. Felix Abongo scored 15 points and Jeremy Liss added 12 for Clarkson.

Evan Kupferberg scored 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead New York (8-1). Costis Gontikas scored 21 points and Ryan Tana added 11.
