On the heels of a brief reprieve from days of bitter cold, Jefferson and Lewis counties could see three to five feet of snow by Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service is calling for 3 to 4 inches of snow Monday, then more than two feet Monday night, and an an additional two to three feet Tuesday night, according to an advisory issued Sunday. Storm totals could reach more than 5 feet in certain areas, the NWS predicts.

Freezing rain is also forecast for this evening, with the potential for about a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation.

Along with the snow, wind chills are expected to plunge temperatures as low as 30 below zero early this week, the advisory states, with winds gusting up to 45 mph.

The NWS is calling for freezing rain and sleet in much of St. Lawrence County tonight and Monday, and snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches Monday night.
