Lake effect snow warning: Up to 5 feet of snow expected in the Tug Hill region (Updated)


Jefferson and Lewis counties are expected to get bombarded with lake effect snow over the next two days.

Several north country schools have either delayed or canceled activates this morning — visit: for the up-to-date list.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning that takes effect at 11 a.m. today and forecasters are expecting up to 5 feet of snow to accumulate in the Tug Hill region from today through 1 p.m. Wednesday.

In Lewis County, the sheriff’s office has issued a travel advisory cautioning motorists of hazardous driving conditions caused by blowing snow and slippery roads.

Jefferson County’s Sheriff’s Department also has issued a snow advisory that takes effect 6 p.m. this evening — warning travelers of an impending snow storm that will most heavily affect the southern end of the county.

State police had to close a portion of Route 3 in the town of Ellisburg — between County Route 120 and Hessel Road — due to excessive water flowing across the road this afternoon.
